International Artist Day

About International Artist Day

October 25th is International Artists Day.

Artists are a much ignored group although almost anything you use day to day has an artistic design at its root. Throughout history art has been the most important defining characterization of a culture or people. Art survives personalities, dynasties, movements and civilizations. Artists are pioneers and are usually at the forefront of changing times and events.

Where does the inspiration for art come from?

The day chosen to honor artists worldwide is October 25th, Picassos' birthday.

Why this artist and not another was more a matter recent contribution. Picasso was instrumental in bringing art to the masses more than any other artist up to that time. He is the iconic artist personified. Now more than ever it is important to focus on art and culture. Mainstream television, globalization and the internet are wiring everyone up to the lowest common denominator. By giving our attention to artists, we have the opportunity for one day to focus on what is eternal and timeless in our civilization.

Hope you enjoy art every day of the year!

Back from Europe....

I had a long visit and trip in Switzerland this Summer....

The life as an artist is in the studio painting but also outside of the studio taking in a variety of emotions, seeing different scenery, meeting new people. Those are the kind of things that recharge my batteries in order to create again, perhaps in different ways.
For me a change of pace and travelling are always good ways to create new energy and fresh ideas.

One of the things I did this summer was to bring my paintings to the Big Art Show in Soleure (which I participated in last year as well). It will start in November and go the beginning of January.

www.kunstsupermarkt.ch

I also visited galleries in Switzerland and was accepted for exhibits in three galleries. I will keep you updated on that later but I can say that I was very happy. One the shows will be in Vercorin in a small gallery called La Galerie Minuscule and I will show with my artist friend Dorane Martinelli. Another one will be in Sion at the Galerie Duo and that one will be a solo show. The third one is the Galerie de la Tour de Peilz which will show some of my paintings as one of the regular artists they exhibit.

My friend Myriam gave my the opportunity again to have a Vernissage in her store which was very successful and allowed me to meet old friends and family.
Many thanks to the Trisconi family for helping me and hosting the Vernissage!

Here are my three first paintings that I did on my return. I started freely on large canvasses since I find this more liberating...

The third one  looks like it explodes with warm colours.....

We will see what come next this Fall!
Stay tuned.....

``Demo`` at CityScape

Well, I can say that the demo was a huge success! 48 persons came to see our demo and explanation of the process of painting abstract in using your right brain. We couldn't have asked for more than that, the audience was interested, asked question, watched attentively and stayed until the end, which lasted two hours. An amazing experience for all of us.

Three artists came from Vancouver Island, Jill Ehlert, Diane McCarten and Eve Llyndorah. They did the demo while Sara Morison and I talked about the process and lead them to their mission. First we did the square, circle and triangle exercise slow and fast, observed the differences between the two and asked the audience their feedback.
Then I asked the artists to do the repetitive motif exercise and asked the audience to choose a number. Number was 4 was chosen and the artists drew on 36x48 velum paper as many times as they felt like and continued the painting with the colours of their choice to create their paintings.

Diane McCarten

During that time Sara and I talked about the course with Steven Aimone, Aimone Services that Mary Stewart organizes on the Island Vancouver Island Art Workshops . The paper we use was of a big interest (Velum 90lb) 48inches wide.

We also talked about the book Painters Eleven  that I recently finish reading and truly enjoyed, for different reasons, one being the similarity in process between their work and my work, the fact that they had to open doors to a new style of painting at the time in Canada and being accepted as abstract artists and open new vision of the art at the same time to the public.

I would like to say thank you to Linda Feil and Jo Dunlop for accepting us into the gallery of CityScape and for all of us to show our work together as an abstract group. The cherry on the cake was the demo last Saturday. Just a fantastic experience for all of us!

Enjoy the three pieces of art created (on 90lb velum paper) during the demo!

Hope you enjoyed it and that you feel like trying to do it yourself!

Studio Experience!

This was an amazing evening after a year and half past after our course with Steven Aimone.

Here are some impatient women looking at the window before the show!

Jill Ehlert one of the 14 women in the show did an amazing slide show of the Opening Studio Experience! please click on it and see the show!

Catherine,Therese and Sara 3 members of the 5enses participating in the Studio show

Sara and Bonnie both sold a painting, this is very good and encouraging since our work was made on paper and not even mounted yet!

This is my piece made for the exercise`` repetitive motif ``one of the exercise made                        during our Steven Aimone workshop in November 2010.

May post

Since the workshop on the Island I have been to Victoria to visit for the first time The Red Gallery in Victoria where they show my work. Marion and Bobb a very nice couple, they started the gallery a bit over a year ago and have been quiet successful selling painting and representing a nice group of Artist. I am one of the lucky one exhibiting there.

Here is some of my work showing there.

Okanagan Series 24x24

Flowers Series 20x20

Song of Shapes 22x28

I went to Victoria with my friend Elyse and stayed with my sister-in-law and brother-in-law in a hobby sheep farm that was alot of fun!

I even bought wool from the hobby farm and from those sheep, beautiful wool natural dye. My intention is to knit a sweater for Mark!!! Oups! Unfortunately, I knitted and painted too much lately and I am NOT allowed to paint or knit for three weeks....so here I am blogging instead!

I will be more active with my blog since I am taking a course to improve my blogging!

So that's it for now and see you soon!
